This ring is an engagement piece for someone I met somewhat randomly; we hired a landscaping company to do some work, and the owner was recently engaged. He had an emerald that belonged to his grandfather and some idea of what he wanted the final piece to look like.
His fianceé works with her hands and they plan to live in a part of the world where it is not wise to wear something that looks too glitzy i.e. what convention expects something valuable to look like, so we wanted a design that would not be too dainty and in yellow gold. They love the color of high-karat gold (as do I) and provided an emerald, so I proposed 22k. It's still soft and has a rich color, but would provide much better durability over pure gold. Emeralds can be problematic to set, as most are heavily included (think of cracks in the stone; these weak spots can split the stone if pressure is applied), so working with a softer alloy can reduce the risk of tragedy in the setting process. The design was sketched out and carved in wax, and then cast.
It is amazing what can be done with out money! I am constantly getting *paided* for my jewelry with everything but money. I am waiting for the day I get live stock lol....Lovely workit has a simple elegance to it.
I love high carat gold. It's funny most people in the US think this is cheap gold because of the rich color. I've had people say, "why do Asians where such cheap gold?" and that is not the case We are wearing the cheap gold here in the US.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P
